Obituary of James Lawrence Butler II

James Lawrence Butler II, 68, of Rumney died October 4, 2016, at the Wolfeboro Bay Center, Wolfeboro, NH, after a period of declining health.

Born in Franklin, NH, on April 7, 1948, he was the son of James L. and Rita (LaFlamme) Butler.

James grew up in Franklin and graduated from Franklin High School, class of 1966. He has been a resident of Rumney since the early 1970’s.

Jim worked as a self-employed logger for several years and then worked for ten years in the maintenance department as an electrician and plumber at Plymouth State College, until his early retirement in 1986. He and his wife Susan owned and operated the Log Cabin Comfort, in Rumney, for many years.

Jim was a member of the Happy House Dart League for many years and a former member of the Plymouth Lodge of Elks #2312, in Holderness. He was an avid outdoorsman and love to hunt and fish.

James was predeceased by his wife of forty years, Susan Faye (Comeau) Butler, who died in July of 2010, and his sister Shirley Hayes.

James is survived by his children, Deborah L. vanLoon, James L. Butler III, and Stacey Maddocks, all of Rumney, his grandchildren, Hayley, Stephanie, James IV, Olyvia, Amber, Kenneth, Connor, Gregory, Brendan, and Bradley, his brother, Gary Butler of Concord, NH, his sisters, Donna Turpack of West Virginia, Gayle Butler of New Mexico, many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held in the Highland Cemetery, Quincy Road, Rumney, on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 10am. The Rev. Edward J. Charest will officiate.
