Obituary of Hubert C. Cagwin
REV. HUBERT C. CAGWIN, AGE 84, OF MARTINSBURG RD. MOUNT VERNON, DIED MAY 22, 2002, AT THE LAURELS OF MOUNT VERNON. HE WAS BORN IN ATTICA, NEW YORK, NOVEMBER 4, 1917, THE SON OF CECIL C. AND NETTIE (HOWELL) CAGWIN AND HAD BEEN A MOUNT VERNON AREA RESIDENT FOR MANY YEARS. REV. CAGWIN WAS A RETIRED AMERICAN BAPTIST MINISTER AND FOLLOWING FIVE YEARS AS A MISSIONARY WITH THE AMERICAN MISSIONARY FELLOWSHIP HE SERVED MANY OHIO AND AREA CHURCHES INCLUDING: EBENEZER BAPTIST IN BETHESDA, OHIO, ROCK HILL BAPTIST IN FLUSHING, OHIO, RILEY CHAPEL, BUTLER BAPTIST, PERRY CHAPEL AND WOLF CREEK BAPTIST CHURCHES IN RICHLAND AND KNOX COUNTIES, SPRING CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH IN PIQUA, BRYN ZION BAPTIST CHURCH IN MT. GILEAD, VALLEY VIEW BAPTIST CHURCH IN MARIETTA AND SPRINGDALE BAPTIST CHURCH. HE RETIRED IN 1988 AND SERVED AS A SUPPLY MINISTER FOR SEVERAL YEARS. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN BAPTIST MINISTERS COUNCIL.
HE IS SURVIVED BY 2 SONS PAUL (SANDRA) CAGWIN OF AUSTIN, TEXAS AND PHILIP (WENDY) CAGWIN OF OXFORD, OHIO; 3 DAUGHTERS SYLVIA (GENE) McCOY OF ZEPHYRHILLS, FLORIDA, JOYCE (CHARLES) HARRIS OF APPLE VALLEY AND NANCY (BUD) MYERS OF PINEY FLATS, TENN. 14 GRANDCHILDREN GENE (JODY) McCOY OF NEBRASKA, BARBARA (TOM) PARKER OF FREDERICKTOWN , TIMOTHY (TERESA) McCOY OF KANSAS SUSAN (TOM) LONG OF BRANDON, DAN (LISA) DENNIS, DIANA (RICK) CARPER BOTH OF MOUNT VERNON, LARRY (JULIE) DENNIS OF LONGMONT, COLORADO, DAVID CAGWIN OF COLUMBUS, MARK CAGWIN OF OXFORD, ANDY (CAROLYN) DUDGEON OF TENNESSEE, JENIFER GROSS OF DELAWARE, JEFFREY CAGWIN, BRENDA (DAVID) O’DELL AND KATHY (RANDY) ROWLAND ALL OF NORTH CAROLINA; 2 STEP-GRANDCHILDREN LISA HARRIS OF MOUNT VERNON AND LORI HARRIS OF TOLEDO; 32 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, 4 STEP GREAT GRANDCHILDREN; A SISTER GLADYS (ROBERT) ERNST OF WESTERVILLE AND A BROTHER RAYMOND CAGWIN OF HAMBURG, NY AND A SPECIAL FRIEND MARY CLINE. HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS WIFE FLORENCE (HODGES) CAGWIN IN 1998, A GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER KATHRYN GROSS AND A SISTER BETTY MALONE.
FRIENDS MAY CALL FRIDAY FROM 1PM UNTIL 3PM AND 6PM UNTIL 8PM AT THE FLOWERS-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD 10 AM SATURDAY AT AT COLONIAL CITY BAPTIST CHURCH. REV. DAN WHISNER AND REV. ROBERT HEIZER WILL OFFICIATE AND BURIAL WILL FOLLOW IN BRYN ZION CEMETERY IN MT. GILEAD.
