Obituary of Lyle Whitney Cagwin
Lyle W. Cagwin of Card Rd., Delevan died Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Pines Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Machias at the age of 93.
He was born July 10, 1922 in Delevan, NY a son to the late CJ Cagwin and Ethel Grace (Whitney) Cagwin. He was a member of the Elton Baptist Church in Delevan.
Lyle was a World War II Army veteran. He enlisted on November 23, 1943 and was honorably discharged on January 11, 1946. He was a Private. He served with the 8th Infantry Division, the 28th Infantry Regiment, Company E. He was taken prisoner in France on August 29, 1944 and returned to service on September 18, 1944. He was later wounded in action on February 22, 1945. Lyle was a Purple Heart recipient.
He was an electrician and supervisor for Koike-Aronson in Arcade. Prior to working at Koike-Aronson's he was a logger and a farmer.
His wife, Maxine (Sweet) Cagwin whom he married October 19, 1951 in Franklinville passed away January 20, 2007.
He is survived by his children: Debra Cagwin of Arcade, Vicki (Rod) Flasch of Simpsonville, SC, Bradley Cagwin of Columbia, SC and Kathleen (Keith) Williams of Wellsboro, PA; his sister: Velma Cagwin of Delevan; also survived by nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his siblings: Ward and Mead Cagwin and Mavis Wilson.
