Obituary of Georgia Karlene Sherwood
Georgia Karlene Sherwood daughter of Arthur Franklin Dougherty and Elizabeth Aldrich Dougherty, was born August 26, 1934 in rural Auburn, NE; she was one of seven children.
Karlene graduated from Brock High School and then attended Peru State College earning a B.S. degree in teaching. Karlene was united in marriage to Leland Sherwood while a student at Peru State. To this union two daughters were born. They lived in Hiawatha, KS for 5 years, then moved to Topeka, KS for one year. Following that they returned to Peru, NE for the remainder of there marriage.
Karlene taught school for ten years, in both Auburn, and Julian. She was a member of P.E.O. a past member of the Peru Community Church, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved baking for her children and grandchildren.
Due to ill health Karlene entered the Good Samaritan Society in Auburn and it is there that on Friday, April 8, 2011 she passed away. She had reached the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 13 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Ruth Clayburn, and Amber Heighfield
Karlene is survived by her husband Leland Sherwood of Longs Creek in Auburn, formerly from Peru, NE; daughters Jeanne Helms of Peru, NE; Joni Schmidt and husband Corey of Kearney, NE; three grandchildren Kyle and Paul Schmidt, and Jacob Helms, sisters Mary Belle Gilman and Fern Johanns of Lincoln, NE; brothers Robert Dougherty, of Eugene, OR; and Donald Dougherty and wife Claudia of Lincoln; NE; other relatives and friends.
