- Parents were EPHRAIM HARTWELL and MARY HITCHCOCK.
- Married ELIZABETH H. NORTON on August 9, 1857. Elizabeth was born December 1, 1838 in Maine.
- Was a photographer in New York City. He later went to California and farmed, later was a miller at Quincy, California.
- Died June 4, 1880.
