BARRUS, K. DEAN, son of Orlando Tolman Barrus and Mary Cecil Adams Barrus was born 6 July, 1919. Orlando Tolman Barrus is the son of Martha Ann Tolman and Emery Freeman Barrus. Martha Ann Tolman is the daughter of Cyrus Hewett Tolman and Margaret Utley Tolman.

Dean graduated from the Tooele High School and spent three years at University of Utah. He then filled a mission for the L. D. S. Church in the Spanish-American Mission. After returning from his mission, he joined the navy in 1944 and was killed 24 April, 1945. Dean was on the very last ship that was sunk by the Germans in the North Atlantic, two weeks before V-E Day.

Dean was a very outstanding young man during his short life. In 1939 he was student body president of the Tooele High School. Also in 1939 he was elected first governor of Boys State at Camp Williams. Dean was selected governor out of 285 of the outstanding boys of the state of Utah. He was also outstanding in athletic ability. He was captain of the football team in 1937, which team won the state pennant, and then wnt to Honolulu to play two high school teams there in December of 1937.
