BENJAMIN LEE born Jan. 5, 1718, died May 4, 1796. Farmer and one of the earliest settlers of Barre, where he bought land in 1743. He was one of the leading men during the American Revolution; was Captain of the Militia, and firmly attached to the American cause. Was Town Sealer of Weights and Measures for 11 years in succession, Selectman 5 years and Representative to the General Court 2 years. He was on almost every committee of importance. May 4, 1796, he rode to his brother Ezekiel's in the forenoon and on his return his horse trod on a rolling stone and fell, he was carried to his brother's house where he died.
